I am definitely a huge fan of colour, I think colour can help lift your mood and add personality into your home. This can feel scary though and so many people will say they don't know where to start.

I'm going to do a few blog posts on different rooms and how to's but firstly my favourite topic .... cushions!

Cushions are a great way to add a splash of colour, it doesn't feel as scary as painting a bright wall colour or using a patterned wallpaper, and can be a quick way to update your room.

So my style is really clashing colour and patterns. More is more! I've chosen some cushions online to show you how to mix and match and you can be as bold as you want. Remember it's your home and it's supposed to feel fun as long as there is a scheme that runs through them.

Cushions were once just for the wealthy and Royals but nowadays they are an everyday item that you'll find in any room of the home and also garden.

So a few tips -

Mix Shapes and sizes

Having cushions all the same size and shapes can look quite regimented, so adding different shape such as round, square and bolster cushions can look eclectic as well as homely.

Mixing Colour And Pattern

You can add plain cushions into the mix to break up the pattern, don't be afraid to add geometric shapes in with patterned fabric. A plain coloured sofa can be made more interesting and inviting with a mix of cushions.

A chair in a room can look so inviting and adds more depth by placing a single cushion on it. The theme with this combo is the colour but the stripes and the dinosaurs just work so well together. No room escapes the odd cushion in my home, even kids bedrooms. They're great to pile on the bed and make it so snuggly for bedtime stories or watching tv.

Pattern On Pattern

The cushions work so well here with the mixing patterns but the same colour palette. I just love this look, it's so inviting.

With the photo above Sophie has used many patterns, I love her style! But the pink, red and that lovely blue that pops through works so well in this room.

Start with a cushion you love, take it with you to shop for others. Don't be afraid to pull the cushions off the shelf and pile them up together. Remove cushions, add more. Shop at different shops and evolve over time. This makes a room look eclectic rather than just buying a look from a shop and makes the scheme your own.

Look at different textures of fabrics together. Adding extra layers into a room scheme can help pull a theme together, maybe a throw might be a starting point that you can pick colours or patterns from.

I hope this has helped with a few ideas. If you need any help pop over to my Instagram or leave a comment
